Welcome to our new Website!

 

It's been a long few months in the making, and also a long few months of silence from us. With this new website we hope to continue to provide a one-stop website with all the information you're looking for. Although right now a lot of content still needs to be put in place we hope to soon have our humble website back to 100% operating capacity. 

 

We hope you all find this new website easier to navigate, and find the information you're looking for quicker. We designed this website from the very start to be more responsive on any device you plan to visit our website on from either your computer, all the way down to your smartphone device. Also included in this new website is a lot of backend content that will make our jobs easier, but also new ways to deliver content to you. Take a moment to look around our new website and we certainly hope you enjoy the new browsing experiance. While we believe this website to be responsive on all devices please do not hesitate to contact us if you encounter any problems with the website.

Weapons Policy

The Anime Blues Con Weapons Policy is a summary of items that are not allowed at the convention. 

Bladed Weapons:

  • No sharp points or sharp blades on weapons/props. (Swords, Knives, Axes, etc) 
    • Live-Steel weapons such as Swords, Knives, Axes are allowed however must remain sheathed at all times of the convention. Your weapon/prop must be peace-bonded by a member of our Public Safety team to prevent the weapon from being un-sheathed.
    • If your bladed weapon/prop does not have a sheath or cannot be peace-bonded for safety it is therefore not allowed and you will be asked to put it in your Hotel Room/Car for storage. 

Projectile Firing Weapons:

  • You may possess projectile firing weapons if they have been permanently and substantially disabled.
    • Bows, crossbows, etc:
      • Arrows are allowed however it must not be able to cause physical harm. (No blades, or Sharp Points)
    • Airsoft, BB Gun, Nerf, and Paintball guns, etc:
      • Must have a permanent orange tip on the muzzle.
      • No ammunition may be possessed.
      • Barrel must be plugged if possible.
      • May not contain a pressurized container. If the weapon/device is found to contain a pressurized container it will be treated as a firearm.

Items designed for offensive or defensive purposes:

  • Any item that is designed, marketed, intended, possessed, or sold for offensive r defensive purposes will not be allowed. (Expandable batons, mace, pepper spray, bear spray, flail/mace, brass knuckles, etc)

Firearms:

  • You may not bring any firearms or device capable of delivering a projectile with a chemical reaction, explosive, or pressurized container. (Pistol, revolver, taser, shotgun, rifle, etc)
    • IE, No Guns Allowed!

Props and Replicas:

  • Must be less than 7 feet in length (2 meters)
  • Must be less than 15 pounds (7 kilograms)
  • Any prop that is used in an offensive or defensive manner, that would otherwise be permitted under this policy, shall be considered a restricted weapon under this policy.

Terms:

  • Public safety personnel (Convention, Hotel, Convention Center, and City of Memphis Police) will be present at all times during the convention. At all venues, you will be under observation, even if you don't have a weapon or are wearing a costume.

Peace Bonding:

  • A Peace Bonded weapon is an item that has been inspected by Anime Blues Con Staff, and has been secured so that said item can be recognized as a non-lethal weapon by means of identification.
  • All prop weapons, realistic or not, must be peace-bonded by Anime Blues Con Staff personnel.
  • Peace-Bonding is available at the Registration Desk.
  • Removal of a peace-bond or addition of one by anyone other than Anime Blues Con Staff will not be tolerated.

Scope:

  • This policy shall apply at all official Anime Blues Con events, including, but not limited to: The Memphis Cook Convention Center, Sheraton Downtown Memphis Hotel, Civic Center Plaza, and all surrounding areas reserved for use by Anime Blues Con.
  • Only Anime Blues Con may determine whether any particular item covered by this policy is permitted or not permitted at Anime Blues Con and such determination is solely, exclusively, and absolutely at the discretion of Anime Blues Con. Persons who do not cooperate with the determinations of Anime Blues Con concerning the application of this policy to any particular item may be immediately expelled from the convention.

  • Persons who carry or otherwise bring prop weapons, replicas, or similar items do so at their own, sole, and absolute risk, and assume all risks of liability, harm, damage, or loss to any person or property injured or otherwise harmed, intentionally or accidentally, directly or indirectly by such items or the person carrying them.
  • Anime Blues Con is and shall not be liable for any injury, harm, damage, or other risk or liability associated with any person's use of any weapon, replica, or prop, whether permitted or banned here after at Anime Blues Con.
  • In no event shall Anime Blues Con and/or its affiliates and subsidiaries, or the Memphis Cook Convention Center, Sheraton Downtown Memphis Hotel have any liability for any incidental, consequential, special or exemplary damages hereunder, even if informed of the possibility of same.

What does it mean to Pre-Register for Anime Blues Con?

You can purchase Anime Blues Con badges in advance of the event, starting now, through July 1st online. These badges are good for all days of the convention, and badges can be picked up at any time during the weekend so long as the Registration desk is open. Your badgewill allow you access to all public areas of the convention including all guest panels, autographs, video gaming, table top gaming, and so much more!

 

Why Pre-Register?

Pre-Registering for the convention has some great benefits for you! These include:

  • Saving money! Prices go up as the event gets closer, so the sooner you regiser, the more money you save!
  • Being able to pick up your badge the earliest on Thursday before the show really kicks off on Friday!
  • A seperate line is available for picking up Pre-Regisered badges, and goes much quicker!
  • Not having to pay for the event, and whatever purchases you may want to make at the show all at once!
  • Get additional items autographed by our Special Guests!*

*Not available from all of our Special Guests.

 

Groups:

If you're attending Anime Blues Con as a group (Two or more badges under the same transaction)

  • Group membership badges can only be picked up by the Primary Attendee - the person who paid for the badges online. From there, it is their responibility to distribute the badges to their group.
  • It is best to plan to arrive either together, or after the Primary Attendee, as they are the only ones who will be able to pick up the membership badges. If you arrive before the Primary Attendee, you must wait for them to pick up the membership badges.

 

Picking Up Badges:

  • You will need either your Eventbrite confirmation receipt, or photo ID. 
  • If ONLY bringing photo ID the name MUST match the name on the ticket (The person who registered)
  • You do not need government issued ID, but it is generally the easiest form of identification. Other forms of ID will be allowed at the registration director's discreation. 

 

Special Notes:

  • Anime Blues Con badges are non-refundable. If you have Pre-Registered for the event, and can no longer attend, you can transfer your Anime Blues Con 2016 badge to another person, or to the following year. Unused badges from ABC 2014 and earlier can no longer be transferred.
  • If you need to transfer your badge, you may do so up to 30 days after the end of the convention. If you do not contact us within this time frame, we will be unable to transfer your badge.

Individual Pre-Registration: 

  • There will be one line for ALL Pre-Registered membership badges.
  • You must bring either Eventbrite confirmation receipt or Photo ID. The name on your Photo ID MUST match the name on the badge/ticket (The person who bought the ticket)
  • Only you may pick up your badge.
  • You can not pick up your friend's membership badge, and your friend cannot pick up your membership badge.

 

Group Registration: (Two or more badges)

  • Group Leaders/Primary Attendee will get in the Pre-Reg line.
  • Only the Group Leader/Primary Attendee will be able to pick up badges for the group.
  • If for some reason your Group Leader/Primary Attendee  can not attend, they will need to contact us prior to the convention to change the Primary Attendee for the group.
  • The Group Leader will need to show either Eventbrite confirmation receipt or Photo ID (Perferably both) to pick up badges which it is then the Group Leader responibility to hand out badges to the group.
  • Individual group members will NOT be able to pick up their badges.

 

What's considered Photo ID?

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Drivers License
  • State-Issued ID Card
  • Armed Forces Identification
  • Passport
  • School / College / University Student ID

Rules & Guidelines

Before attending the event, be sure to review our rules and policies below. These rules are simple, easy to follow, and exist to ensure that everybody at Anime Blues have a safe and happy time. Please note that violation of these policies may result in removal of your badge and ejection from Anime Blues Con without refund of your badge money. Our staff is on hand and will be more than happy to handle any questions or concerns you may have.

General Rules & Conduct


  • Please remember that everyone is here to have fun. Disruptive or unsafe behavior is strictly prohibited at Anime Blues.
  • This includes but is not limited to: physical, verbal, or sexual harassment; public inebriation or intoxication; nudity and inappropriate attire; running indoors; shouting; blocking doorways or heavy traffic areas; and activities that endanger people or property.
  • Anything prohibited by law in Shelby Country is also prohibited at Anime Blues Con.
  • Anime Blues takes no responsibility for any damages incurred to property or person.

Anti-Harassment Policy


  • Anime Blues Con is committed to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all. As such, we ask you to remember that boundaries and comfort levels vary from person to person.
  • Do not assume that a behavior you would find acceptable is therefore acceptable to another person.
  • It is each individual's responsibility to obtain definitive consent from another person for anything that involves that person. The absence of expressed consent must be treated as refusal. It is likewise every individual's right to dictate their own boundaries and be respected. 
  • Anime Blues Con will not tolerate harassment and reserves the right to revoke badge privileges and remove from the premises anyone found to be contributing to an unsafe or hostile convention environment. 
  • If you feel that you are unsafe or being harassed, please approach any member of Staff for assistance in finding a member of our Public Safety team or City of Memphis Police. Your safety and comfort are a top priority.

Harassment


Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, or other protected class status, sexual images in public places, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography, or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention. Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

Harassment may be subtle, manipulative and is not always evident. It does not refer to occasional compliments of a socially acceptable nature. It refers to behavior that is not welcome and is personally offensive. All forms of gender harassment are covered. Men can be harassed; men can harass men; women can harass other women.

Some examples:

~ Jokes, insults and innuendos (based on race, sex, age, disability, etc), degrading sexual remarks, referring to someone as a stud, hunk or babe; whistling; cat calls, comments on a persons body or sex life, or pressures for sexual favors.

~ Gestures, staring, touching, hugging, glomping, patting, blocking a person's movement, brushing against a person's body intentionally, or display of sexually suggestive or degrading pictures, racist or other derogatory cartoons or drawings.

~ Unwanted photography after verbally requesting it to be stopped, clandestine photography or videography for the purpose of exploitation (hidden cameras, upskirt video, etc.)

Dress Code


  • Our minimal dress standards are shirt and shorts for men and full-coverage bikini top and bottom for women, with shoes required at all times and no exceptions for Cosplay in public areas.
  • Anime Blues Con attempts to make sure everyone at the event has a great time and expresses themselves in a way they choose but certain levels of undress can cause issues with a large subset of our other attendees. 

Staff/Volunteer/Security shirts are not allowed unless it clearly states the organization it is from.

  • Anyone found posing as Staff/Volunteer/Security will be escorted out of the convention. (Don't wear the shirt unless you want to be put to work)

Badge policy


  • Badges are required for all convention functions and must be forward facing, on the front of your body and above the waist. Keep your badge secure and visible on your person at all times. If you lose you badge, you must purchase another at full cost.
  • Your badge grants you access to all non-specialty events and function spaces based on availability and convention policies.
  • Badges and wristbands remain the property of Anime Blues Con over the course of the weekend, and must be surrendered on request by an authorized representative of Anime Blues Con. 

Venue


  • Please do not damage venue or hotel property. Any damages or theft in a hotel room will be charged to the registered guest.
  • If you are found sleeping in the public areas, you will be asked to go to your hotel room or leave the event space.
  • The MCCC venue is our partner in putting on our convention It's our home for the weekend. Please help us take care of our home so we can continue to produce a fun and affordable event. 

Due to MCCC polices the following is not allowed inside the venue whether in Cosplay or not:

  • Sharp-pointed weapons(Knives, Swords, Axes, etc)
  • Roller Skates or Skateboards
  • Stilts
  • Leashes or loose metal chains
  • Firearms (Please see Weapons Policy for additional information)

Personal Property


  • Attendees of Anime Blues Con attend at their own risk. Anime Blues is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged property, or for injuries sustained during the course of the event.
  • There will be some spaces or events where you cannot take large bags, weapons, or props, such as the Dealers Room or Dances. You will need to seek a safe place to store these items while you are in there.

Children


  • Anime Blues Con strives to be a all-ages friendly event, but Anime Blues Con also hosts thousands of people at our convention.
  • To help protect children, everyone under the age of 16 should have a parental or guardian escort at all times. Children should carry some form of identification and parent/guardian contact information at all times. 

Photos & Videos


  • By purchasing a badge and/or participating in our events, you are implicitly granting permission to be photographed or recorded by Anime Blues Con for promotional or archival use.
  • We also encourage fan and outside professional photography and videos, unless the subject does not wish to be photographed. Do not set up any lighting structures or backdrops that are not immediately portable.
  • Photographers may be asked to move due to traffic at any time. Blocking doorways or heavy traffic areas is prohibited.
  • Please refrain from taking photos or videos in events or rooms that do not allow photography, which will be indicated at those locations. 

* By attending Anime Blues Con you agree to follow all rules set forth by the convention and failure to adhere to those rules may result in lose of badge and being escorted off the convention grounds. Rules are subject to change without notice and it is your (the Attendee's) responsibility to check the convention rules for changes in policy.
